The construction of the Buland Darwaza, which is also adverted to as the Gate of Magnificence, got built by Akbar in the year 1602. The reason behind the construction of this great piece of architecture was to commemorate Akbar’s conquest of Gujarat.
It is interesting to note that in order to reach this gate, you have to climb 42 steps, as it is about 40 meters high. You cannot just resist yourself from admiring this great piece of work, which is built of white marble and red sandstone. The calligraphic inscriptions from the Quran (Holy book of the Islam), which adorns the chatris and the pillars add to the beauty of this structure.
The most beautiful fact that is associated with the Buland Darwaza is the inscription on the monument and it is known that this inscription is a message from Lord Jesus to his disciples, which is ‘The World is but a bridge, pass over but build on house on it’, which means that his followers should not regard this world as their permanent home.
Have a great trip to the Buland Darwaza.
